In the old Television show Superman used to fight for “truth, justice, and the American way.”  We have law officers who seek to enforce the law, and courts that pass sentence on those who violate the law.  We understand that there must be a balanced system of justice within our nation if our civilization is to survive.  But, justice is not always done.  Criminals get away with murder.  Courts are not always fair.  Sometimes the guilty go free.

We live in a world that is filled with injustice.  In Africa one tribe or ruling party will randomly slaughter another tribe.  Men, women, and children are brutally tortured and killed.  Where is the justice in that?  In other parts of the world as well as in Africa people are violently oppressed by the few and powerful. Men live in fear for their lives and their families.  Women live in fear for their children.  Children live in fear for their existence.  This world is often an unjust world.

Rest assured.  God is in control.  Justice will be served.  While justice is not always immediate, it is most certain.  God will see justice done in the case of those who savagely attack others.  Ancient Syria, Assyria, Babylon, and Rome are no more.  God has destroyed those savage and cruel world empires.  Hitler’s Nazi domination ended.  God saw that justice was done.  God is in control and God will bring justice to an unjust world.

What about those who escape justice in this life?  They will receive it in the after life.  They will open up their eyes in torment.  They will long for a drop of water to cool their tongues.  They will pay the price with pain, regret, and sorrow. They will receive an eternity of what they gave to others.  When the Lord returns He will be coming with flaming fire to take vengeance.  He will execute judgment upon the wicked.  He will pass sentence upon the unjust.  He will see that justice is served once and for all.

Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.  These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power (2 Thessalonians 1:6-9).”
