LIVE BY FAITH

by Kevin Rutherford

The Bible says, the just shall live by faith. (Hebrews 10:38) In the context in which this verse is found we are told what it means to live by faith.

Living by faith involves serving with obedience (Hebrews 11:7-31). People such as Noah, Abraham, and Moses are held up as examples of faith. In each case these individuals gave evidence of their faith by obeying God. Living by faith involves serving God with obedience.

Living by faith involves standing with courage (Hebrews 11:32-38). A brief description is given of judges, kings, and prophets who are notable for their faith. These were individuals who stood up for what was right even if it doing so meant they would be stoned, sawn in half, killed by the sword, destitute, mocked, put in chains, scourged, or imprisoned. Living by faith involves standing up for truth with courage.

Living by faith involves running with endurance (Hebrews 12:1, 2). We must run the Christian race with endurance. Look to the great examples of faith and see how they endured. They ran and endured to the end. Now it is our time and our turn. We must run and endure. It is a long distance race filled with difficulties and trials. We must be determined to press on in the Christian faith. Living by faith involves running the Christian race with endurance.

Because living by faith involves serving with obedience, standing with courage, and running with endurance, we understand that living by faith involves more than just accepting the facts about Christ. We accept it, but then we live it. Are you living by faith?
