LIVING BY FAITH

by Kevin Rutherford

The writer of Hebrews told Christians to live by faith (Hebrews 10:38).  He then went on to explain to us what is involved in living by faith.

Living by faith involves obeying God (Hebrews 11:7-31).  Abel had faith and obeyed God when he offered sacrifice to God (Hebrews 11:4).  Noah had faith and obeyed God when he built the ark (Hebrews 11:7).  Those who refuse to do what God says cannot truthfully say they are living by faith.

Living by faith involves standing up for what is right with courage (Hebrews 11:32-38).  The Holy Spirit tells us of prophets and others who accomplished wonderful things for God in the face of terrible adversity (Hebrews 11:32-35).  Some of them paid a severe price for their courageous stand (Hebrews 11:36-38).  Those who refuse to stand courageously for the truth cannot truthfully say they are living by faith.

Living by faith involves running the Christian race with endurance (Hebrews 12:1, 2).  We are running a race that lasts a life time.  We must not stop running before we reach the end of our lives.  Those who do not run the Christian race with endurance cannot truthfully say they are living by faith.

Are you living by faith?
